Thrift Store Boxwood Wreath on Scrap Wood

Thrift Store Boxwood Wreath on Scrap Wood

Welcome back friends, today I’m going to finally do something with the DIY barn door I created back in August.

My DIY barn door was supposed to go on top of a century old butter churn.

The black barn door was too much  for the smaller churn but I vowed I would use it some day.  Well, that some day has come.

As for the butter churn, it got a smaller, natural wood top.

The barn door was assembled with a variety of pieces of scrap wood and assembled with screws.

I couldn’t let all that beautiful scrap wood go to waste and I’ve finally found a use  for this neglected barn door, a backdrop for a boxwood wreath.

I love the look of a genuine boxwood wreath.  By genuine, I mean the wreaths that are made with preserved real boxwood stems such as this one from Amazon.  For a wreath, it’s rather pricey at almost $52.

So I was very excited to find this boxwood wreath made with the beautifully preserved boxwood stems for only $6.49 at a local thrift store.  I don’t know what happened to this wreath, maybe it was in a windy area, maybe an animal munched it, but it was missing more than a few of it’s tiny stems.

Look how pretty those leaves are.

At the same time I picked up the boxwood wreath I also picked up this slightly smaller vine wreath.  It was half price at only $2.25.  I had no interest in the current decoration, I just wanted the vine wreath that everything was attached to.  It is so easy to pull off all of the old flowers.  I would then be starting from scratch and a $2.25  wreath is far less than I could purchase the same unadorned wreath in a craft store.

Stem by stem I pulled the old boxwood stems out of the old wreath on the left and stuck them into the new wreath on the right.  All your stems should be facing the same direction.  No glue is necessary, just make sure all the stems are inserted snugly between the vines.

I have a new preserved boxwood wreath and enough supplies for another wreath project, all for less than $10.

Where does my scrap wood barn door come in?  Why that’s the backdrop for my new boxwood wreath which is now hanging above my bed.

On a different day I picked up this $3 Valentine wreath.  So easy to change out the wreath depending on the season.

If you’re starting to decorate for Valentine’s day make sure you check out all my heart projects, most from reclaimed wood…and as always, stay inspired.
