Upcycled and Recycled Home Decor Inspiration
Upcycled and Recycled Home Decor
Wherever I travel I’m always on the lookout for inspiration for upcycled and recycled home decor and crafts. Today I’m bringing you those things that I’ve found over the last few months that inspire me.
When I look at these things, I think I could do that, or, that is pretty darn clever, or I have to have that! Bear in mind, I haven’t made any of these projects but maybe I could. 😉
First up, check out this old, faded, somewhat dirty quilt displayed beneath an old wooden window.
I just realized, the last picture in this post will also show you a quilt display.
Upcycling, taking something old and discarded and giving it a new purpose. That would pretty much describe saw blade flowers welded onto rebar.
This wreath is made to be taken apart with a watering can, hose and tools. Not so much upcycling but definitely a nice house warming gift.
This is from a restaurant we ate at in Gatlinburg, a wall divider made from old windows. Love the brightly colored paint choices, brick optional.
From a woodworkers shop, a rustic wood side table.
An assortment of upcycled garden decor. The piggy is made from an old propane tank, the snake, from a post hole digger and car spring.
More garden decor, a brightly painted old bicycle.
I believe this siding was genuine tree bark. I love the idea of using every part of the tree.
An old bicycle wheel is transformed into a flower.
These 2 gnome homes caught my eye at a park in Gatlinburg…
…probably because of the use of the naturally aged wood combined with the painted pieces and maybe because we’re in the middle of building a tree house for my grandson. Hey, I’m always on the lookout for my own inspiration.
The next three were all found in the same restaurant. I often find that restaurants have the best upcycled inspiration.
A half barrel light with mason jars and a corrugated tin ceiling.
A liquor bottle light with a pulley.
Another half barrel light with mason jars.
I don’t know if that is a genuine log end wall treatment, I do know they sell wallpaper with that look and these look really even.
An assortment of letters makes for a wonderful eclectic store sign.
In another art gallery we found beautifully painted gourds.
And of course, Santa Claus. I’m thinking I may need to grow my own gourds.
A nearby park had these two flowerpot people all ready to greet guests with their masks.
The same park had these brightly painted toad stools. I think those are salad bowls screwed into logs then painted red and white.
Not so much upcycling but using items that naturally occur in nature to create this beautiful railing.
The following pictures are from a couple of facebook groups I follow.
Repurpose, Recycle and Redo Furniture and Decor and Thrift Store and Garage Sale Upcycling Projects
These two groups have thousand of followers and every person who contributes is just as talented as the next. If you have an item that you don’t know what to do with it, just post a picture and the wonderful folks will flood you with ideas. So while I’m giving you a roundup of inspiration I wanted to share just a few more pictures with you so their work would not go unnoticed and you may want to check out these groups yourself.
More often than not I did not include a link because when I went back to find the original picture I couldn’t find it. So just enjoy these and if you happen to find an original poster I’d be glad to include the link.
Cactus under glass. I have a couple of glass cloches, maybe I have to turn them into terrariums.
This drawer caddy looks pretty simple to create. It’s one of those times when I say, I can do that!
I love the combination of black paint with a natural wood top. I even like the chicken wire in the cubby.
This diecast car display is made from an old bicycle tire and wooden shelves.
My next vanity is going to be an old dresser. I absolutely love this look!
This person said she used spray adhesive to attach fabric pieces to an existing lampshade and fabric glue for the trim.
Reclaimed wood horse art piece.
Grand piano flipped on its side is now bookshelves.
I’ve seen a lot of dragonflies made from old ceiling fan blades but this is the first butterfly. So pretty, especially with the wider blades.
I believe this person made this child’s marketplace from an old tv cabinet.
Cute little scarecrow from bottle caps, tin can and soda can legs?
Inexpensive plastic plant pots get a new life and a new look with pallet wood.
A new life for an old gun cabinet. Original dark wood is now painted to blend with the old quilts.
I hope you found something to inspire you, if not, you may need to check out my old Scavenger Files. And if I still haven’t made you say, I can do that, well I’m already starting to round up my next pictures because I know I can give you that spark of inspiration. It’s just a matter of time.
