DIY Christmas Gift Ideas 

This is the 3rd time I’ve done a roundup of DIY gift ideas from around the web. There is something for every skill level and everyone on your shopping list.  I’ve also thrown in a few of my own ideas that you may have forgotten about. 

With a few weeks until Christmas there is still plenty of time to get your DIY on, so make sure you pin your favorites as you go along.

 

…..Gifts for the Outdoors….

The Solar House brings us this easy idea to transform recycled vases to tabletop solar lighting.  The rocks cleverly hide the stems of the solar light sticks.

 

 These Cookie Cutter Bird Feeders are from Freebie Finding Mom.

 

This trio of trees, or choose just one, would be so quick to put together and practically free if you make them from pallet wood.  These are originally from Birch Lane but are currently sold out.

Catherine at Growing Family made these easy Suet Bird Feeders.

 

For Mom, Dad or the grandparents, create a personalized stepping stone for the garden.  This one was created by Amanda at A Crafted Passion.

 

This wind chime featuring Game Pieces and beads was originally  shown on Flickr.  Love the use of recycled objects.

 

For a totally different look, use seashells to create your wind chime.  This one was created by Home Sweet Homemade.

 

……….Christmas Tin Makeovers

Give the gift of storage with these reimagined Christmas tins.  These are from Rustic Crafts and Chic Decor.

 

Inexpensive Christmas tins get an easy paint makeover or converted to a first aid kit.

 

Regift another old Christmas tin when you give it a makeover with paint and wallpaper.

Donna, at Funky Junk Interiors shows how to make this countdown to Christmas Bingo card with stencils.  Even the plaid is a stencil!

 

Remember your childhood with a felt stick horse.  Pattern and directions from Lia Griffith.

 

Great gift for older kids,  a DIY Marshmallow shooter made from PVC pipe.  This one is from  Christy at Gather Lemons.

 

How cute is this, a DIY fort kit, complete with a sheet, clamps and flashlight.  This idea is from Wit and Wander.

 

If there is a new baby in the family, why not show up with a kit to make hand and footprints.  You’ll need ink and a couple preprimed canvasses.

 

These animal hooks from Jenny at Refresh Living are perfect for a jungle room or use dinosaur butts for a Jurassic Park theme.

 

Homemade Playdough is the best!  This recipe is from the Wallace family at Create, Play, Travel.

 

For all the little ones visiting you this year, how about an individual smore kit.  This idea was from Diary of a Debutante.

 

For the whole family, create a jumbo sized yard Yahtzee game with an old frame and a 4×4.

Create a super easy dry erase board for memos or lists from an old frame and scrap fabric.

 

Practically free upcycled cans make fantastic lanterns that could be used either indoor or out. These were featured at HGTV.

 

Upcycled Cheese Plates make a great hostess gift when paired with homemade goodies.

 

A plant or flower is always a welcome gift.  Susan at Oh my! Creative, takes it one step further with the addition of printable tags to go along with potted herbs.

 

Doodle on a thrift store ceramic piece and create a fun serving piece for anyone on your gift list.

 

Green with Decor made these fun Scrabble tile coasters.  Super easy to personalize for everyone on your gift list.

Lots of ideas to dress up ordinary tin cans here.  Even the kids can do this project, but a gift everyone would enjoy receiving.  These are from Instrupix.

 

For the quilting enthusiast, create a quilt block from free pallet wood.

 

Create an inexpensive pallet wood frame and use it to display a family heirloom.  It’ll be a gift they will cherish forever.

 

Create another heirloom by using old letters to personalize a thrift store silverware box.

Shelly at Frugal Family Home gives a great DIY converting a T-shirt into a pillow.  Use one of the recipients t’s or hit up the local thrift store.

 

This one caught my eye because I am in need of a few new grocery bags ever since my county went plastic free.  This one is from sewguide.com

 

If you’re looking for a different design, I have one more shopping bag for you.  It may be easier to sew without the side panels.  This one is from Happy Camper.

 

Craft Passion gives you a free pattern and tutorial for how to make this cute sock monkey.  

 

Noting  Grace gives you a full tutorial on how to turn Grandma’s recipes into tea towels.

You will need the sewing machine to hem these once you have them printed.

 

…..The Gift of a Beverage…..

Brandy at Gluesticks shows how to make these delicious hot chocolate sticks.  Just melt in a mug of warm milk.

 

Another take on hot cocoa stirrers are from Bake, Love, Give.   I think I need to try both.

 

For those boxed wine lovers, how about a cover made with reclaimed wood? Add a label holder so they’ll know what they’re drinking.

 

For the coffee lover comes a Christmas morning gift basket from Kimberly over at A Night Owl blog.

 

Kathy at Eclectic Girl Lifestyle Designs has put together several gifts that any hostess would love to receive.  Add a few more lemons to this pitcher because I’m seeing lemonade.

From the Gabels at Growing up Gabel comes another  hot cocoa gift .  Quick and easy gift to create.

 

Food always makes a great gift.  This 7 bean soup mix comes from Carol at The Gardening Cook.  Click on the link for the full recipe.

 

Heidi, from The Frugal Girls brings us this Chocolate Cookie Mix in a Jar and better yet, the recipe only uses 4 ingredients.

 

I couldn’t decide between these 2 mason jar cookie ideas so I brought you both.  This one is from Heart Handmade.

 

This Peppermint Brownie Mix is from Davet Designs.

 

If you like to chop, you may want to whip up a batch of salsa for all your friends and family.  This recipe is from Shelby at Honeybunch Hunts.

 

Candied pecans are always a great gift.  This recipe is from A Farmgirl’s Dabbles.

 

Patti at Hearth and Vine shows how to make mason jar candles.  Her instructions also have downloadable gift tags and instructions.

 

This Candy Cane Salt Scrub is almost too pretty to use. It’s from Melissa at Outnumbered 3 to 1.

 

These dried lavender candles  are from Sonja and Jane at Sustain my Craft Habit.

 

Ashley at Make it and Love it, shares her recipes for whipped butters.  Make sure you gift one of these with a loaf of fresh bread.

 

…..Serving Tray Gift Ideas….

A Williams Sonoma inspired tray was created by Jaime at Southern Revivals using leather pieces and a 2×6 board.

 

Pretty Handy Girl created this beautiful serving tray with just a few scraps of wood.  An easy build for the beginning woodworker.

 

Artsy Chicks Rule brings us an easy  thrift store basket makeover.  Fill it with goodies or leave as is.

 

Tile Boot Tray

This tile boot tray is from Her Tool Belt.  It may take a little more woodworking skill than the 2 above.

 

…….Upcycled Sweaters Gifts…..

For the little one in the family, a Sweater Kitty from The Sewing Loft.  It uses an old tshirt and sweater to make this very huggable kitty.

 

The picture was shared by Craftsncoffee.com but a tutorial by Johnnie at Love Creations.  I see another trip to the thrift store in my future.

 

Create   a hat from an old sweater.  This one is from Threads Magazine.

 

Erin from Sometimes Homemade brings you a great pillow from a favorite sweater.

 

A sweater also  makes a great wrapping for a bottle of wine.  This idea is from Warm Hot Chocolate.

 

……Photo Gifts…..

I love to give frames for any occasion.  This one was made by my youngest son out of old oak flooring and gifted to his brother, a new dad.

 

Holly at 504 Main created these scrap wood  photo ornaments.  Great way to personalize a tree.

 

I could not find an original source for this photo cube but it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.  A fun gift for the kids to make and give.

 

Use a photo transfer technique to create these one of a kind photo coasters.  DIY is from Patti at Hearth and Vine.

 

Photo magnets would be an easy assembly for kids to give parents or grandparents.   These are from Meredith at Unoriginal Mom.

 

Another version of a photo cube, these with scrapbooking bits and pieces.  These are from Carla Schauer Studio. 

 

From the DIY Village comes this original photo gift, a pop-up photo box.

 

This is a gift I asked my kids to do for me for Mother’s Day this year…recreate a family photo.  It was a little harder to do this year due to the pandemic but they managed with a little help from an Ipad.  Take it from me, Mom will absolutely love this gift!!

….Giving Gift Cards….

After seeing 70+ DIY gift ideas and you still decide to give a gift card, then this Santa Clause belt gift card holder may be for you.  This was found on Etsy.

 

This gift card holder was created from a wine crate with a cork knob on top.  The box can be reused long after the gift card has been used.
