Pallet Wood Votive Holder

Just when you think I couldn’t possibly have another pallet wood project I’m back to prove you wrong. This piece of pallet wood is not your normal pallet wood though, it’s a 4×4 used as a side rail on a pallet. I left some of the original top pieces to prove it really was from a pallet.
For this project you’ll also need votive holders, a hole saw, a large paddle drill bit and finish of your choice.
The votive holders I’m using are Uppehall from IKEA. These are four packs for 99 cents. What a great deal! I bought 3.
Lay out where you want your holes drilled. Draw a center line and measure or use a block of wood to mark even spacing for your votive holders.
For these votive holders I needed a two inch hole drill bit. The largest I had was 1 1/2 inches so I had to resort to a 2 inch hole saw.
To get the wood out of the center I’m using the 1 1/2″ paddle drill bit. If I had a two inch paddle bit I would have used that for the entire hole. I’m not sure they make them that large.
Clean out the holes. A hammer and small chisel worked well getting that last piece of wood out.
Sand well.
I’m using antique wax to finish off the piece. Paint the wax on and rub off.
A piece of felt hides the hole left from the spade drill bit.
Night time is where it really shines. Not bad for $3 in votive holders and some scrap wood.
Until next time, stay inspired.
