Easy Pallet Wood Napkin Holder

A friend of mine recently asked if I had ever made a napkin holder.
Why no, I haven’t, but it sounds like a fairly easy project and better yet, I could make one out of pallet wood and other scraps I had laying around the workshop.
A napkin holder is also a great project for the beginner DIYer.
To make the box you’ll need a square piece of scrap wood cut a half inch (more or less) larger than a napkin, about 6 1/2 inches, and pallet wood.
I mitered the corners of the pallet wood to fit around my scrap wood square. If you don’t have a miter saw, straight cuts would work just as well.
Use a can to mark one pallet wood side with a half circle and cut out with a jigsaw or scroll saw.
The notch will help you pull your napkins out easily.
Sand all your pieces well, then attach with wood glue and nails.
Either stain or choose a paint color to match your decor. I’m painting with black chalk paint which goes with just about everything.
If you like a chippy paint finish, now is the time to sand all your edges.
I raided my junk pile for feet for my napkin holder to sit on. I kept pulling out possibilities, the first knob that got to 4 would be my feet.
We have a winner, the baby blue knobs!
I did have to cover up the baby blue with some Rust-Oleum spray paint, bittersweet. Bittersweet was the color, not how I was feeling covering up the blue. 🙂
Attach the knobs with screws to the napkin holder.
I’m assuming that the paint on the bottom of the feet will eventually scratch off, it either won’t matter to you because it’s on the bottom or feel free to add felt pads.
Also in my stash were these Drawer Tag Label Holders from Amazon, leftover from my Dump Desk. Perfect to add a bit of bling.
I made this for my friend but since I’m currently using just a basket for my napkins, I just might have to make one for myself.
Stay inspired and have a great weekend.
If you want one more napkin holder using scrap wood, this was my son’s design and build. He did a fantastic job. Choose your favorite and get busy. 🙂
