Carrot Seed Packet Pallet Wood Sign

Hi everyone, I’m back today with another vintage seed packet sign.  This time I’ve chosen Danvers Half Long Carrots.  Not sure why, maybe I liked the colors  and they didn’t look too hard to paint.

If you like seed packets and are not really sure you want giant carrots  hanging on your wall you may want to check out all the seed packet choices.  Google  “Card Seed Co. prints”.  Choose images.  Under images, click on Tools, Size, and Large.  You may be able to get away with a Medium image but the smaller you go the more pixely the image becomes when it’s enlarged.

You can transfer virtually anything to a pallet.  Make sure you choose an image that fits your skill sets as a painter.

If the carrots look familiar, they should.  Back in July, I shared with you the Kentucky Field Pumpkin packet from the same, Card Seed Co.  He was painted on somebody’s discarded fencing picked up at the salvage yard.

OK, the pumpkin was not my first seed packet.  For that you’ll have to go back to July of 2015 for my giant sunflower.

This time I’m using my old friend pallet wood.  You could also use discarded fencing, an old piece of plywood or whatever else is in your scrap pile. How large you make your sign is up to you.  Mine is 37″x  25″ .

Use scrap wood to hold  your pallet wood together from the back.  Notice more of my wedding arbor?  Nothing is safe from the saw around me.  🙂

For tips and tricks on how to transfer the image onto the pallet wood, make sure you go back and check out the pumpkin  or sunflower sign.

These are all the colors I used for the carrot sign.  You might be able to get away with a few less bottles but you’ll be mixing colors more.  Don’t worry about getting the exact shade, anything close will work perfectly.

Just like the pumpkin sign, start with the black background first followed by the sky.

I ended up just cutting out my carrots to get a nice crisp transfer outline. Once I traced the outline there wasn’t too much more to transfer.

The  Card Seed Co and  Fredonia, NY lettering were leftover from my Pumpkin sign.  No need to print out twice if I didn’t need to.

To transfer  lettering onto a dark background, scribble on the back with white chalk, tape in place and go over the lettering with a pen. Paint, just as you would a paint by number.

For the carrots, the sky and the field,  paint on a base color and while the paint is still wet add highlight colors blending as you go.  For any areas you don’t like, just wait until the paint dries and paint over.

I did do one more seed packet sign. Once I get on a roll there is no stopping me, but I think I’ll wait a while to share.

Have a great week.  Stay inspired.
