The Liebster Award

Liebster Award

The Liebster Award

After 5 months of blogging I was thrilled to be nominated for the Liebster Award by Betsy over at Happily Ever After, Etc.

This award has a German origin which means, dearest, nicest, beloved, valued, endearing, etc.

The Liebster Award is based on a tradition where a more seasoned and accomplished blogger welcomes a newer blogger, one who they see has potential.

When presented with the award, one has  the liberty of either accepting it or refusing it.

Urban legend claims that the people who refuse it end up with blogs that are abandoned.

Now, apparently there are a few rules in order to accept this award. I can’t just dance happily all over the house.  I need to…

Post the award image on your blog.

Acknowledge and thank the blog who nominated you.

Give eleven random facts about yourself.

Answer the 11 questions asked by the person/blog who nominated you.

Nominate 11 blogs, with less than 200 followers, to receive the award.

Let the bloggers know that they’ve been nominated.

Give them eleven questions to answer.

I will start with  11 facts about me that you have never wanted to know but I’ll tell you anyway.   I’m going to have to save my 11 nominees until I do a bit more research.

I’ve lost both of my parents to cancer and I miss them every day.  I have to say that I’ve gotten my handyman skills from my Dad who fixed everything around the house and my crafty skills and gardening from my Mom… though she was more into the sewing, quilting, crocheting, embroidery type skills.  She, too, always had a project in the works.

I’ve been drawing peoples houses for about 10 years. I work with a couple of realtors but only average about 1 or 2 a month so it’s more a hobby than a job.

I would love to inspire people to pick up that nail gun, pick up that saw…If I can do it , so can you.

I really hate those hammer and screwdriver sets made for women.  You know, the kind with the flowery  or pink handles.  (I’m sorry if you own one) There is just not enough weight in the hammer to sink a nail.

Unlike  a lot of women, I truly do not like heels, I’m sorry, they hurt my feet.  I wear tennis shoes all day trying to get 14,000 steps in a day.  I also only use one purse at a time. When that wears out, time to get a new purse.  I will admit to owning a few heels for special occasions and a couple evening purses for that formal gathering.

I am a self confessed chocolate-aholic.

There is nothing better than a hike in the woods on a beautiful day.

In college, I majored in Business/Marketing but minored in Art.  Marketing, so I could get a job some day and Art, for the enjoyment.  In one of my art classes I even learned how to weld…not sure if I would remember how any more.

When I was about 20, I was held up by gunpoint.  I know that’s kind of random, but I think that all your life experiences shape how you see and view the world.

I know that any parent would say this,  but , I can not be more proud of my three sons.  Two have graduated from Virginia Tech, the oldest getting a job in architecture and the second in computer consulting.  They have each married beautiful, creative, caring, women and are making their own warm, loving homes.  My youngest son is taking AP and honors classes and should be following in his brothers footsteps in a couple of years.  We couldn’t have raised a more kind or caring son.

Really enjoy genealogy and geocaching.  With my husband’s golf and collecting garbage for all my projects, I think I have the “G’s” covered.

Here are the 11 questions from Betsy at Happily Ever After, etc..

How much time do you spend blogging each week?

I probably spend about 15-20 hours a week working on my blog in some way.  Whether typing up the blog, joining link parties, gathering supplies or doing the actual project.  It takes up more time in my mind though as I’m  always thinking of new posts, new projects, things to do.

You just won a million-gazillion dollars, What do you use it for?

Well nobody needs that kind of money, so besides making sure my kids and my future grandkids are set,  I would have to start big time donating.  Unfortunately, there is never a time when people don’t need help around the world, whether through hurricanes, earthquakes, famine or wars.  Closer to my heart would be the cancer foundation, parkinsons disease foundation and wounded warrior project…did I spend it all?

If you had time to grab one thing during a fire (not counting people, kids or pets… they’re all safe) What would it be?

I would have to grab my  photo albums and videos.  Irreplaceable.

How many siblings do you have?

I have four siblings, 3 older and 1 younger.

You just won an all expense paid vacation to anywhere in the world, Where are you going?

Right now I would love to go to the Canadian Rockies and Alaskan Cruise…can I fit that into my one trip?

What do you do each and every day FOR YOUR BLOG? Write posts? Hit up social media?

Since my blog is all about projects, I am constantly  looking for new ideas to try,  looking for junk I can incorporate into a project and heading down to the workshop to chop or paint.

If you had a day off, all to your self… no chores, no work, no kids. What would you do?

Now that my kids are grown, I do have my days to myself.  So, what I chose to do is start a blog talking about all my projects.

What is your earliest memory?

There may be an earlier one, but I remember trying to make butter from buttercups.  Pretty sure that didn’t work.

What is your goal for 2015, for your Blog?

I definitely have to get more social media savvy. I have never joined Facebook, I only use Twitter to follow my new niece and  I just joined Instagram after beginning my blog.  I was not born into the digital age and I have never been one of the first adapters, so I am definitely playing catch up.  I’m going to get my son to show me the wonders of Facebook.  Besides that, I still would like to post a couple of times per week.  We’ll just have to see how that goes.

When do you Blog? In the morning? Late at night? When the kids are napping?

I usually blog in the morning or after I’ve finished a project and the pictures are uploaded.

What’s the funniest joke you’ve heard this week?

Why did the elephant fall out of the tree?   She slipped

Why did the second elephant fall out of the tree?  She was glued to the first elephant

Why did the third elephant fall out of the tree?  She thought it was a game

Why did the fourth elephant fall out of the tree?  Because his mother asked, “If all your friends jumped out of a tree, Would you?” he said yes

Why did the tree fall down”  He thought he was an elephant.

Sorry, you did say this week, and this week we happened to be looking for an elephant joke for a  birthday card.  I think I need to get out more.

Ok, That was harder than I thought it would be and I haven’t even made my own questions or nominated any other blogs.  That will have to keep for another day.  Right now there is a project in my workshop with my name on it.

  • Hi Joan! I’m so glad you accepted the Liebeter award, it’s a funny little award isn’t it? Takes a lot of time to do all of the steps… But it’s so much fun to read everyone’s answers and get to know them just a little bit better!
