Bread Dipping Seasonings- Gifts Kids can Make
This diy gift was made by my youngest son, about 5 years ago to give to all his Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents, but we keep making it over and over because it really is that good.
If your child can measure, this is a great gift, and one all of your recipients would enjoy getting. OK, if you don’t want your child to take all the credit, you can make this as well. A great hostess gift, neighbor gift, teacher gift….
Measure out 1 tablespoon of the following herbs.
Basil, Parsley, Rosemary, Crushed Red Pepper, Garlic Powder, Minced Garlic, Kosher Salt, Pepper, Garlic Salt
While that looks like a lot of crushed red pepper, it’s not overpowering. This is coming from someone who is not crazy about anything really spicy.
Mix all the herbs and seasonings thoroughly…
…and spoon into small jars. If you have any leftover spice bottles, this would be a great place to use them. We used this cute little container from Michaels. Even though it has probably been 5 years since my son gave these as gifts, I noticed that Michael’s is still carrying the jars for about $1.50, pre-coupon.
Ready for packaging. This container of seasonings is tied to a shallow bowl, perfect for bread dipping. For a teacher or hostess gift, you could include a bottle of olive oil.
To serve, just add a few pinches to olive oil and dip away.
We have found over the years that it is also awesome on baked vegetables. Toss your vegetables with a bit of olive oil then sprinkle the seasonings over top. Bake at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes. So far we have tried this on cauliflower, string beans and brussel sprouts and all have turned out YUM.
To keep the costs down a bit we have a huge rosemary bush and we dry our own. Just tie stems together and hang in an out of the way spot until dry and crispy.
And we are also known to dry our own basil. This hint was from Pinterest, but now that I went looking for it, I can’t find who put it up originally. Wash and dry your basil, then place in a brown paper bag and leave it alone for a few weeks until dry. For some reason it works great. FYI, that method also works on cilantro.
Make sure you stop by later this week for another gift that kids can make. Have a great week.
