What is it? Thrift Store Edition

What is it? Thrift Store Edition

I hit the thrift stores about once a week and most things I’ve either seen before or I can take a good guess at what they may be used for.

Take your best guess on each of these items.  At the bottom of the post I’ll reveal if I found out any info on any of them.  On a few, I’m still clueless.

Also, before you ask, none of these came home with me.  I guess if I have to ask what it is, I probably don’t need it.

1.

Thrift Store Smudge pot, fire starter

First up I have this fantastic little cast iron pot.  It has some age and with the notch in the lid it looked like it was missing a ladle or something similar.

2.

Westminster Kennel Club crate

It’s a crate of course.  But is it a side table with bars?

3.

brass boot remover

In certain parts of the United States you’ll probably have no problem identifying this brass object and it’s use.

4.

Pink Pig dog squeaky toy

In the toy section.  Do kids play with this?

5.

Thrift Store copper bacon cooker

In the bakeware section. It didn’t look used.

6.

Wooden baguette slicer

Made of wood with slots.

7.

Homemade pottery chip and dip bowl with bathroom fixtures

Handmade pottery. Definitely not mass produced.  🙂

8.

Thrift Store Pottery chicken cooker

Another pottery piece.  Bigger than a juicer.

9.

Thrift Store mystery object cement corner rounder

An old tool.  Do you know it’s purpose.

10.

Pampered Chef egg cooker

Did your Pampered Chef party tell  you what this is?

11.

Thrift Store mystery object, jewelry holder? mug holder?

Metal monkey on a wood stand.

12.

Thrift Store mystery object. Candle holder, drink flight holder?

Nice wooden tray.  What would you use it for?

13.

From the Thrift Store, Mystery Objects- mail holder? tablet holder?

Again, your guess is as good as mine.

14.

From the Thrift Store, Mystery Objects- terra cotta planter

Terra cotta pot.  Maybe not what is it but more of a WHY is it?

15.

Thrift Store, ham holder

This is probably 2 feet long if that helps you decide what this is.

16.

Thrift Store mystery object

Larger than a napkin holder.  Any  ideas?

17.

Thrift Store Hotdog Cooker

Hint..it has nothing to do with coca-cola.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Let’s see how well you did.

  1. Smudge Pot, Fire Starter

1.  Did you guess a smudge pot or fire starter. It was designed to ignite fireplace wood using kerosene.

2.  This was a crate from the Westminster Dog Show, though it would make an excellent side table with history.  This was actually found at a flea market for about $125.  I sooo wanted to take it home but it was kind of pricey.

3.  This is a vintage brass Boot Jack.  The U shape formed by the horns grips the heel while you stand on the base to hold it in place. While I thought $15 was kind of expensive for something I had no idea what it was, I did find one just like it on Ebay for $40.

4.  This guy is a squeaky dog toy.

Thrift Store copper bacon cooker

5.  Put your bacon in that pan and fry in the oven.

6.  Place your baguette on this wood piece and slice in the grooves.  Perfectly even bread slices.

7.  This is someone’s homemade chip and dip bowl.  It comes complete with overflowing toilet, a toilet brush, plunger and toilet for the dip.

Thrift Store pottery chicken cooker

8.  This pottery piece from Tumbleweed Pottery cooks a nice upright chicken in the oven.

9. This is a vintage cast iron concrete finishing tool or edger.  The rounded edge  makes a nice rounded edge on your concrete.

Pampered Chef egg cooker

10.  You already know its from Pampered Chef …this is their microwave egg cooker.

11.  The metal monkey,  I couldn’t find another one of these in my search.  My best guess is a jewelry holder or mug holder.  Any other ideas?

12.  I believe this is for a flight of drinks often used for trying different types of beer, wine or cocktails.  Probably use it for candles as well.  Look here to find how to make your very own beer flight set

13.  Nothing on Google lens.  Mail slots? Phone and tablets????

14.  I’m assuming this is for a plant?  A very zen plant.

Thrift Store, ham holder

15. This is a different version than the one I found, but they both do the same thing.  It’s a professional ham holder to use when slicing ham.

16. Closest I found was a glazed souvenir but with that hole his original purpose remains a mystery.

Hotdog Cooker

17.  Did you guess hotdog and bun toaster.  Amazon still sells these  for about $30, but I am seeing a lot of these specialized toasters appearing in thrift stores near me.

Any ideas on the ones I missed?

It’s time to go shopping and start dropping some knowledge on those strange gadgets or antiques out there.

Until next time, stay inspired.
