Easy DIY Scrap Wood Bunny and Springtime Charcuterie boards

Easy DIY Scrap Wood Bunny

Welcome back everyone.  You may not have missed me but I’ve been spending the last couple of weeks touring beautiful sunny Arizona.  We started in Tucson, made our way north into Scottsdale,  then the red rocks of Sedona and finally finished our journey at the amazing Grand Canyon.

Well, I’m back but I haven’t started on any new projects just yet.

Easy DIY, Scrap Wood Rabbit, Bunny

This project, my cute little Easter bunny, I probably completed at least 15 years ago, but I’ve never shared him here.  He needs to make his debut.

He is rather an easy project if you have some kind of jigsaw or scroll saw to do your precision cutting.

On a 30 inch , 2×6 scrap piece of wood, draw the outline of your bunny.  This happens to be a 2×10, that’s why all the excess.  On a 2×6, the widest parts of the  rabbit, the hips and ears, will extend all the way to the outside edges.

I did this rather quickly because I’m not actually going to complete this bunny.  I know you can do better.

For scale, the ears are about 11″ in height.

These rabbit feet are about 7 inches wide.  The part that will go under the body of the rabbit should be exactly the width and length of however you drew your rabbit.  Mine is about  2 3/4″ x 1 1/2″.

Cut out with your favorite jigsaw, bandsaw or scroll saw.  This is my scroll saw, it’s thin blade allows for precision cuts with not much effort.

Sand all the edges of your cut wood pieces.

OK, now that you’ve cut out your bunny, feet,  paws and sanded, the hardest part is over.  You just need to do the finishing touches.

Paint the entire rabbit with white paint.

Once the paint has dried, lightly sand the edges once again.  If you like the sanded edges darker. use a stain or vintage wax.

Tie on a bow with raffia or another spring time fabric.

Water down red paint with white and  blend into his cheeks and inner ears.  If you have a pink lipstick or blush that works just as well.

Paint on eyes and whiskers.  If you don’t have a thin brush for the whiskers, use a fine black drawing pen.

Nail or screw on the feet to the body.

The tail is made from a 1 1/2 inch wooden ball attached with a dowel.  Drill a hole in your bunny body and wooden ball the width of  a wooden dowel.  Use wood glue to stick on your bunny tail.  No dowel? Just use a pencil piece.
