Outdated Word Signs Reimagined -3 Easy Makeovers

You can always tell what trendy fad is no longer trending. That’s what you’ll find in the thrift store. And what I’m seeing a lot of are these word signs…you know, live, laugh, love, HOME, Family, Gather.
I’m not knocking them, I even have a couple of family member who love these signs and they look great in their homes. But if this style is not for you, I have a couple of easy sign makeovers you may enjoy.

I’ll start out by saying I did not go out to the store and purchase all of these word signs. I came across a box of 6 signs at a clearance store for the low price of only $2. It looks like they were originally sold at Boscovs.
I’m starting out with this Feelin’ Beachy sign.

It was originally $19.99, marked down to $4.98, final clearance at $2.49. I’m assuming it never did sell. I don’t think anyone was Feelin’ Beachy.

Feelin’ Beachy is now gone, painted over with white chalk paint.
I picked up a small square frame from Walmart for $1.

Attach the $1 frame to the wooden frame as if you were hanging the frame on a wall.
Frame your favorite artwork and voila.
This was one of Gelli plate prints from 2 years ago.

No longer feeling beachy, feelin kinda leafy.

Then there was this set of 4 farmhouse style HOME frames.
Cute frames but nobody needs HOME written all over 1 frame, let alone 4.

These frames were sold for $19.98. That was each!

Definitely had to undecorate these frames.
The string was easily removed as it was only held on with a couple of staples.
I had to get out the heat gun to soften the glue that held on the HOME lettering.

You could always save your lettering for a Christmas sign…HO HO HO, or a picture of yourself…ME ME ME ! 🙂

It was obvious where the lettering had been removed, so each frame got a dry brush of white chalk paint

Now it’s just a plain old boring frame. Just the way I like it.

Insert your artwork and you’re ready to go. This is another of the Gelli prints.

All ready for hanging.

The last makeover was this Family frame printed on tin.

Sorry the Family had to go. Goof Off, the kind that removes latex paint, works wonders.

For this FAMILY sign, I really wanted to make it say COFFEE, but since I just told you word signs are on their way out I’ll do something else.
It was time to hit up my rusty junk pile. How about a Christmas tree made of rusty nuts and washers.

When you have your piece of art arranged as you like, glue in place with a clear adhesive such as E6000 or Gorilla glue.

All ready for display.

I do have more junk in my stash other than nuts and washers. How about a rusty girl with hair standing straight up?

When you are ready to get rid of, or reimagine your old word signs, I hope I gave you a few ideas for your upcoming transformations.
Until next time, stay inspired.
