Wedding Arbor Floral Arrangement DIY

Wedding Arbor Floral Arrangement DIY

My daughter in law to be texted me last month and asked if I could decorate  the arbor for her and my son’s  wedding with a floral arrangement.

This is the arbor with another bridal parties flowers.

Sure! How hard can that be? To make it easy on me, she would have the flowers and greenery on hand.  BTW, the roses were purchased from Costco.

OK, I’ve never done floral arranging before besides a cute little wad of flowers in a vase.  Did I agree too quickly?

Nah!  I can do this.  Cue the Youtube videos.  Look up wedding arbor floral arrangements and you’ll get all the basicsOK, those are much better than mine, but hey, my prices can’t be beat.

Other than the florals, I did have a few weeks to gather a few more supplies. I still needed lots of zip ties and foam floral blocks. The  foam blocks were from Amazon.  Make sure you soak those in water.  Also bring along wire cutters and scissors.

The chicken wire and moss were from my back yard.

I laid out a few feet of the chicken wire and placed the moss green side down followed by the foam floral blocks.

Wrap the chicken wire around the moss and blocks and secure tightly on the ends and around the back with the zip ties.

Turn the chicken wire over and you have a nice little log into which you can stick your greenery.  The foam blocks should keep everything from wilting on the big day.

All the greenery was added the day before.  I waited until the wedding day to add the florals.

Miranda and Nate, the happy couple, provided me with roses and vines but I did bring a bucket full of Magnolia leaf cuttings from home as a backdrop for the other flowers.

Work from the outside in and try to balance the leaves.  If you stick a big clump on one side, stick a similarly sized big clump on the other.

To the outside of the florals, and to give this thing some width,  I added some of their purchased vines. The inside of the moss log is ready for the flowers.

The entire arrangement had to take up a space of about 7 1/2 feet.

Start filling up the center with your florals.  Sorry this one is hard to see, I was working in the grass.

Keep adding the flowers, trim as necessary, until they are even and full.  Once you attach the flowers to the arbor, stand back and add more flowers as needed.

Get your husband and middle son to do the heavy lifting and zip tie that thing into place.

OK, it was probably more awkward than heavy, but those extra hands were greatly appreciated.

The roses in the sides that couldn’t reach the foam blocks were stuck into floral tubes filled with water then stuck into the vines.

Two hundred additional long stem roses in the floral tubes line the wedding aisle.

And the wedding went off without a hitch.  The weather even cooperated with a few days of rain before the event and a few days of rain after, but their day couldn’t have been more beautiful.

After the wedding the florals were taken down and placed in the center of the head table.

I have to make sure I give props to the cutest little ring bearers and flower girls.  They just happen to be my grandkids.

This  In Loving Memory board, was created from a repurposed  hollow core door.  Pieces of dowel hold reclaimed wood shelves and frames of family members that passed too soon.

They also created this cork art work.  Guests were encouraged to sign another cork with a message for the happy couple and their name and insert it into one of the holes.

My other job, that I’ve been fulfilling for the past year  whenever I hit the thrift stores, was to buy  tons of these clear glass cylinder vases to line the banquet tables.  Three larger vases in varying sizes adorned each round table.

At one point after I had purchased  about 100 I asked if I was done and she told me I needed about 45 more.  I see the vision!

Wedding Favor bread dip oil and spices

A favor  for all their guests was a small pouch of bread dipping seasoning and olive oil.

After we returned, I got a sweet message from Miranda that they had stopped by a nursing home on the way home and donated their arbor florals which now adorns the fireplace in the home.

If you need more upcycled wedding DIYs, make sure you put “wedding” in the search  area on my site for pallet wood centerpieces, table numbers, a stick arbor and other wedding signs from my other 2 son’s weddings.

Until next time, stay inspired.
