Upcycled Rusty Pipe Side Table
Upcycled Rusty Pipe Side Table
I found this fantastic rusty pipe in a dump pile behind my son’s house. It immediately screamed TAKE ME HOME, followed by a quieter, YOU KNOW I’D MAKE A GREAT SIDE TABLE!
Pair that pipe with this multicolored painted wood round which will look great as the table top…maybe not in it’s current state.
You may remember that this harlequin wood round was used for a Mardi Gras party . It was part of a wheel of fortune type spinner mounted on a lazy Susan. Since I don’t get too many calls for an oversized Mardi Gras themed spinner, it was time for a repurpose.
The dowels that I used for the wheel of fortune spokes were cut off and sanded. The harlequin masks that were modpodged in place were sanded off as well. I was left with an almost new, slightly odd colored paint job, 24″ pine wood round.
As for the very rusty, dump find pipe, it just needed a good sanding. I left the rust on the ends intact. I do like a little rusty patina.
The entire pipe got a coating of polyurethane. This poly goes on with a milky tint but dries clear.
For the top, I’m giving the wood 2 coats of sage chalk paint.
To really dirty up the paint so that it blends better with the rusty base, I followed up the chalk paint with a coat of antique wax. Paint on the wax, wipe off the excess. When dry, buff with a fine steel wood to bring out the shine.
The finished top is attached to the base with screws thru the screw holes that were already present in the pipe.
The table now sits between two overstuffed leather chairs in my son’s, almost finished, garage game room.
In the foreground you can see my curbside rescue rattan coffee table. In the background is another metal barrel from the same dump.
That metal barrel was converted into this game table with yet another discarded table top. Did you know a barrel is the perfect height for countertop stools?
I have found four matching stools since this picture was taken, I just haven’t been able to get over there to take updated pictures.
As always, stay inspired.
Joan,
You continue to amaze! That garage already looks good!
