10+ Projects, Upcycled Decorating with Scavenger Chic

Upcycled Decorating with Scavenger Chic

I mentioned last week that my oldest son Keith and his wife, Steph, purchased an investment property that, for better or worse, came filled with furniture.  Last week I did some easy fixes to three of those pieces. But my car also came filled with a bunch of my past projects to see if they could find a place in their new home.  Not everything was able to make the cut and they had to make the sad journey home with me 😥   Not everyone enjoys upcycled decorating like I do so I was beyond thrilled that so many of my items were put to good use.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens to all those projects I’ve done over the past 8 years (wow, has it really been that long), I’m here to show you the fate of 10 of those projects. I’m pretty sure we used more than I’m showing here but I didn’t take their picture, so maybe next time.

I’ll start with the living room since they’re using four of my projects here. The small side table closest to you is my turkey fryer table. Yes, it really did start out as a turkey fryer.

On the table you will find my oyster shell lamp. A perfect accessory for this home which is only a couple blocks from the Chesapeake Bay.

The coffee table started it’s life as a wooden dolly.  The house, built in 1912, was very dark so I did lighten the finish just for them.

And way back in the corner, a tripod floor lamp from a ladder.

These nautical signal flags were practically free, made from  acrylic paint I already had on hand and pallet wood.

This wasn’t the first time I’ve used signal flags in my projects, check out these windows, and wall decor.

Remember this cute little Spinet  desk from June.  I couldn’t resist the $2 price tag but I had no need for an extra desk.  Luckily they had just the spot.

This beachy wood frame made from pallet wood and other scraps  found a new home in the powder room.

I was also given this stack of pillows  that were left in the house.  What could I do to make them a little more cohesive?

Fabric is so expensive so might I suggest hitting up your local thrift store?  There I found 2 blankets and 1 curtain panel, all for about $10.

Seven pillows all restuffed and ready for their new home, and I still have a bunch of fabric leftover for more.  You can find four of these pillows on the sofa in that first photo.

The 3 tier serving tray sits on the buffet in the dining room.

The curbside rescue blanket chest has now found a permanent home in the attic bedroom.

I  mentioned back in January that I was loving painting signs on reclaimed wood.   Shortly thereafter I painted this rooster  on a curbside find door.

I have done a few more signs since then, all for another day. 🙄

My Red Rooster Inn sign found a new home above the fireplace.

This small shutter coffee table is the perfect size for a loveseat tucked away under the stairs.

I’ll finish with a photo that I shared with you last week.  You may not have noticed the shutter headboard, but it’s the same one I gave to my son and his wife back in 2016.  They used it for years until babies and life happened and now it is finding a new home, just without the wood extensions that originally made the headboard taller.  BTW, these are interior wood shutters not exterior slatted shutters. I do have a slatted wood shutter headboard as well.

I’ve been working on one more project for their house to make their  journey into upcycled decorating complete.

Until next time, stay inspired.
