Refresh and Restore Aluminum Table and an Upcycled Hanger

Refresh and Restore Aluminum Table

I have 2 fairly quick DIYs for you today.  They don’t relate to each other at all, but since they are both rather short, I’m lumping them together.

First up, I’m refreshing my patio table and chairs.  The dining set is probably 7 or 8 years old now and has seen its share of  changing seasons. Right now it’s covered with Spring pollen.  A simple wipe down or hosing off  will get rid of the pollen and dirt but won’t hide the table’s dingy dull appearance.

I used this FLOOD FLD4-04 Penetrol  on some rusty objects  and a 3 piece bistro set last year  where it did an amazing job of  stopping the rust and bringing my bistro set back to life..  When I saw the finish on my patio set this year I knew just what product would do the job.

These are actual Amazon review comments. I shared these with you when I treated my rusty junk last year, but in case you missed them…

  • I use it is to renew the powder coat finish on my aluminum patio furniture every year. I mix it about 50/50 with mineral spirits and wipe it on the surface
  • I used it to restore the shine of vintage Eames fiberglass chairs
  • Also great at rejuvenating old wood, adhering paint, making paint  on more easily.
  • I use this to treat steel items I build that may go outside. Never rust.
  • Used this as a tip from an old spa guy that said he wipes it on faded plastic cabinets and they revive. It sure did!
  • I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler that the hard top was faded. Applied this Flood product and now it looks completely brand new. Only time will tell how long it will last,
  • This stuff made our slightly faded jeep hard top look brand new and is holding up great for months now
  • Works really nice as a semi permanent clear coat for bare metal

My table is full of little nooks and crannies which all seem to be a gathering place for dirt.

Out came the hose and a scrub brush.  Cleaning took away the build up of pollen and other dirt but the finish still looks rather sad.

The difference is noticeable immediately. The Penetrol is so easy to work with, just paint on and wipe off any excess with a paper towel if needed or wipe on with a rag.   Wait 12-24  hours dry time.

The finish will probably only last a season if the table is out in the weather but if you use your table often it is so worth the effort.

After sitting around for a half year, the Penetrol has gotten noticeably thicker so you might want to do all your projects at once.  Also, get the smallest size container available unless you have a huge project because a little goes a long way.

I’m ready for a picnic!

Upcycled D ring Hanger

I have one more small DIY for you. I purchased these D Ring Picture Hangers – 100 Pack from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. Price wasn’t terrible, 100 pack for just over $10.  I do enough projects that I’ll definitely use them up.

I wasn’t feeling too bad about my purchase until I see someone on Pinterest using pull tabs from cans for the exact same  D ring picture hanger purpose.

I’m a scavenger, why didn’t I think of that?

A screw would just pull out of either of the 2 holes, but if you poked a hole in the tab with a hammer and nail you now have the perfect screw hole.

The perfect picture hanger may be right inside your recycling bin.

Have a great day.  Stay inspired.
