Pallet Wood Junk Heart
Sometimes you guys like the easy projects…the project that uses up your scrap wood and the one that lets you upcycle some of your junk. This is that project.
We’re making a junky pallet wood heart just in time for Valentine’s Day.
I started with a pile of junk. These are things I thought might look good on a heart, but I did have to whittle down my pile because not everything fit. This heart is going to be on the small size.
Cut a square from a piece of pallet wood or any other scrap wood. This one is about 5″ square.
From paper, cut a heart shape to fit inside your square.
Use the heart shape as a stencil or as a pattern to paint a heart inside the scrap wood.
Let the paint dry.
Sand the edges of the pallet wood and the heart shape softening the bold red color.
I’m using an old bicycle chain (gifted to me by my son) to outline the heart shape.
Use Gorilla Clear Glue or E600 clear adhesive to attach the bicycle chain and a lock to the heart.
Wipe away any excess glue before it dries. I used a cotton swab to clean up the edges where the glue had seeped out.
Old skeleton keys dangle on screws next to the hearts.
If you like the idea of a broken heart shaped locket where each person takes half of a heart than this idea may be for you. Take the pin out of an old hinge, separating it so each heart gets half the hinge. The hearts are only complete when the hinges are linked together.♥
Here is one of the hearts perched on my grandmother’s old sled, which now hangs in my dining room. If you’d like to make your own vintage style sled, make sure you click on this link.

Stay inspired and happy early Valentine’s Day.
