DIY Black Arch Headboard, pt 2

Black Arch Headboard

A few weeks ago I showed you the making of a reclaimed wood DIY king headboard.  When I constructed the headboard I hadn’t bought the bed yet, but why wait until the last minute.

I finally got the bed and I’m ready to make the switch.  The headboard just barely fit into the spot formerly occupied by my old queen bed.  I thought I would have to replace the desk on the right but somehow it has managed to just fit into the space.

The pallet wall was installed in 2015.  If you go back to that post you’ll see that I’m not changing up the side tables, lamps or pillows. This is the before and after of the bed I’m replacing.

Don’t worry, I’ve found a good home for the old four poster bed.  My son’s girlfriend just graduated from nursing school and she was in the market for a queen bed for her new apartment.

From the ground up I’ll show you what I used to finish up my bed.  So easy to do since it was all ordered from Amazon.  First up,  the King Bed Frame.

Next up, the Casper Box Spring Foundation.

If you already have a frame and box spring and just want to upgrade your mattress, the memory foam mattress will fit right over whatever you have.

This is the piece I find amazing.  The entire foundation came in a box.  The corners slide together and the entire top just unrolls.  The reason I’m so in awe over this foundation is that I’ve moved several family members where the box spring just would not fit up the stairs. Usually it was into older homes, but we ended up cutting the wood on the box spring, folding it in half and then reattaching with L brackets…and that was just with queen mattresses.  A king size bed was out of the question in those old homes.

And finally the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid Mattress.  The box doesn’t look that big, but inside is a huge mass of King sized yumminess.

Oh, and it does weigh over 100 pounds, so you’ll probably need some help wrestling with the box as well as the mattress.

I compared lots of mattresses.  The Purple, Casper, Nectar, Puffy, Ghostbed, Allswell, Layla, Saatva, Birch, Tuft and Needle, Helix…. Personally, I had no idea there were so many online mattress companies.  I finally gave up and gave the mattress reviews to the hubby who chose Casper.  Works for me!

Also was helpful to know that middle son also had a Casper and gave it high reviews.

The mattress is unrolled but still in its shrinkwrap.  Would have been nice to know at this point that it was upside down.  The white side goes up.  Just saying, because once the shrinkwrap is off, that thing had a life of it’s own.

BTW, if you’re not in a hurry, sales pop up a lot.  It may be worth your while to wait.

It’s so pretty and perfect.

For full disclosure, I did have to take 3 inches off the legs of my black arch headboard.  I wanted the end of the headboard to hit just below the top of the mattress.  The side trim leg pieces were 55″, now they are  52″.

I thought the mattress would take a couple days to reshape but we were able to sleep on it the first night.

The barn “office” door on the right dates back to 2016  which I guest posted over at My Repurposed Life

The bathroom was constructed in a time when builders did not see a reason for the bathroom to have a door.  This is actually just an opening to the sink area. There is an interior door to the shower and toilet.  Maybe it is just me, but I am under the belief that all bathrooms should have doors.

If you’re in the market for a comforter this one was from Target.

Hope you enjoyed my room makeover. Stay inspired and please stay healthy.

Now I am all confused! This doesn’t look like your bedroom that is really a lot bigger and has a bunch of nice windows in it????

I can see your confusion. This is a house we have near the beach. When you get used to a king size bed you want one everywhere. 🙂

Looks good! Glad you are comfortable at the beach!

Love the headboard, thanks for all of the details about the bed. We too are in the market and have one of those old homes with the winding staircase and narrow hall. Are you still liking your Casper mattress? Any issues with begin too warm like many memory foam mattresses?
