Folding Ruler and Pallet Wood Star

It seems like whenever I go to a craft show I find someone who has made a star from a folding ruler. They all seem fairly straightforward, have a folding ruler with at least 10 sections, fold and glue in place.
So when I found a folding ruler at an estate sale I had to have it. The end was broken off, but it still had the prerequisite 10 sections so it was perfect.
And since the end was broken off I was able to get the ruler for the low low price of just $1.
Since a folding ruler star has been done before, I decided to add my own touch…pallet wood.
Fold the star shape with the ruler and lay out the pallet wood beneath the star allowing an extra inch, more or less, on all sides.
Use a straight edge to create a border around the star. This will be your cut line.
Using the star as a pattern again, cut a backing board from thin plywood slightly smaller than the pallet wood.
Cut out the pallet wood with a jigsaw, scroll saw or band saw.
As you cut the pallet wood place it directly onto the plywood backing so you don’t mix up any of your pieces.
Use wood glue to attach the pallet wood to the plywood backing. Let dry.
Use a nail gun, small brads or just glue to attach your star to the pallet wood.
Easy project right?
Until next time, stay inspired.
Joan, I love the rustic charm of your folding ruler star! Great tutorial too 🙂
I love it, too. Well done! My parents used to have one of those… Wish I had it for a keepsake.
I’m going to keep my eyes open for one of those rulers, I really like the old-timey feel of it. Thank You
I’m a huge fan of stars. Really really like the reclaimed wood behind the folded ruler. Pinning to my stars board.
