Upcycled Cheese Plates and Candlesticks

I have a really easy upcycle today using 2 thrift store finds. These are the domes from cheese plates and scrap pieces from two pedestal candle holders.
The candle pieces were the excess from the candlestick lamps I shared back in November. You may remember that the original candlesticks were too long to be used for lamps so I just chopped a piece off and threw that excess in my scrap pile.
So after tripping over those pieces for a couple of months, I’m getting them off the floor, dusting them off and putting them to good use.
The scrap pieces were nice, they were made of a solid hard wood and had a nice shape. Actually, if they were cleaned up a bit they could still hold a pillar candle. They could, but I had other ideas.
My plan was to use them with domes from a couple of thrift store cheese plates. If there is one thing thrift stores always have a bunch of, it’s cheese plates.
Pull any nails, get rid of any stickers and sand well.
Isn’t that dome the perfect size?
Choose your favorite color chalk paint. This color is Ocean by Waverly.
Sand the edges.
If you liked the original color, seal with clear wax.
The finish on the left is with a coat of vintage wax, painted on and rubbed off.
For a finish somewhere in between, apply a coat of clear wax, let dry, then follow with the vintage wax. The clear wax will prevent the vintage wax from going into all the nooks and crannies.
What I liked about these pieces is that I can use them two ways. One is more of a bowl, turn it upside down and I have a flat surface.
I had to take the pictures quick because I was about to eat all my props. These were (notice I said were, I have no willpower ) white chocolate dipped Oreos from Walmart and they were delicious. 🙄
While you’re here, you may want to check out my last cheese plate makeover, which was also made from candlesticks and strangely enough was also published around Valentine’s day a year ago.
Have a great week, stay inspired.

So cute. And beautiful too. Love the project
I see so many cheese plates in the thrift stores. Now I know what to do with them! Thanks for posting this great idea!!
This appears to leave you with more leftover supplies–what did you do with the cheese plates that came with the domes?
