Salvaged Piano Junk Angel

My sister recently had a sale to get rid of all her excess junk. Among her stash was this console from her old piano. She had taken her old 1900’s upright piano apart years ago and this was all that remained. The console didn’t sell, but seeing all those junk pieces in one place I knew I had to have it.
I actually have my own old piano that needs to be torn apart but I’ve had a serious case of procrastinating. Like hers, it can no longer be tuned, the keys are breaking and no one plays anymore. I must say that it does make a nice place to hold family photos.
I even made a Pinterest board of what to do with my old piano in hopes that I would inspire myself, but I have yet to take that next step…destruction. By the way, if you have an old piano, I currently have 72 pins on that Pinterest board.
Well now I can procrastinate even longer with my own piano because look at all the pieces I salvaged. I’m seeing angel legs and feet in those old hammers.
Like all angels, I’m starting out with the body. This is just a wide plank of pallet wood rounded off at the top and cut with a scroll saw.
Sand the top and edges well.
Use more pallet wood for the wings using the body as a pattern to help shape the inside edge of the wings. Cut out and sand.
For the angel wings I’m using an old piece of sheet music. The legs will be the hammer part of the old piano.
Not quite sure how I was going to fit in any of the other pieces.
Modpodge the sheet music onto the wings.
Cut arms from a dowel and paint the body the color of your choice.
Round off the top of the dowels for shoulders and sand both ends.
I wanted a checkerboard for my angel body and since I have no clue what I did with my checkerboard stencil I’m just painting my squares individually.
For the edge of her dress I’m using another piano part. These were attached to the same piece that had the hammer. I’m using super glue to attach.
Drill holes in the bottom of the dress to hold the hammer legs and glue.
All three angel pieces are joined from the back. This is a screwed on thin piece of wood, in it’s previous life it had been shutter slat.
Normally I like to use a finial for my heads but this time I was fresh out. The middle of this spindle is going to play the part of angel head.
Do you like my paint remover? There was so much paint caked onto the spindle that smashing it with a hammer knocked most of it off.
Sand off the head, rounding the top.
I’m not sure what my halo used to be but since it was flat and round, it got screwed onto the top of the head.
The screw eyes, also salvaged from the piano, makes for some nice curly hair.
Other unknown, unnamed, little felt piano pieces add a little more flair to the dress and wings.
The head is attached with a dowel. Drill thru the center of the body and head, insert dowel and glue.
Paint the arms as desired. Drill a hole thru the hands if you want her to hold something and insert a wire. It’s easier to insert a wire before attaching the arms.
Use finish nails to attach to the body.
Raid your junk box to finish decorating.
If you don’t have a piano, you may enjoy the following inspiration for wings, legs, halos and arms.
Until next time, stay inspired.

The angels are so precious. I love how you repurposed the piano parts. I also have an old piano, don’t play and have a Pinterest board. I am going to look at yours maybe I will take the piano apart.
