Thrift Store Vase Napkin Makeover

After a week of small furniture makeovers I have a craft project for you today, using a thrift store vase, chalk paint, Mod Podge and napkins.
I found the best selection of decorative napkins at Tuesday Morning but you can also find a great selection on Amazon.
First up, paint the entire vase with a coat of white chalk paint. This is what you’ll see if you look inside the vase so you’ll want a nice even layer.
Follow the white with a layer of sand colored chalk paint. This coat of paint does not have to cover as much as the white and can just be dry brushed on (unlike mine which is kind of solid). Keep all your brush strokes going side to side.
The sand is followed by dark gray. Again, the gray can just be dry brushed on.
Dry brushing is just lightly loading your brush with paint, dabbing off a little on paper, then lightly brushing on the coat of paint. Since this layer won’t be seen, you can skip the dabbing off part.
The last coat is another layer of white chalk paint.
When the paint is completely dry, sand lightly revealing some of those other layers. The stripes are the result of some of those side to side brush strokes.
Now for the bottom half…separate your napkins until you only have one ply.
Cut the napkin into equal fourths, cutting off the folded edges.
Paint on a layer of Mod Podge on the part of the vase where your napkin will go and follow with another layer of Mod Podge.
Take care to keep your top edge level and overlap the napkins slightly where your edges meet.
Finish the top painted part of the vase with a coat of the Mod Podge or chalk paint wax.
Leave to dry. May want to elevate the vase so the Mod Podge does not stick to anything. Corn comes in mighty handy.
The inside of the vase is waterproof, however this Mod Podge is not, so just wipe clean the outside of the vase as needed.
The finished vase of flowers was given to my Mother in Law for her 86th birthday. Happy Birthday Anne!
Stay inspired.

There must be 1,000,000 of those vases waiting for a makeover at your local thrift store.
Great job. What a simple idea.
Just what I like.
Very striking finished vase. Great method to personalize what can be very inexpensive vases.
Wow – this is beautiful! We love how the vase turned out…and can’t believe we used the same napkins LOL.
Love it, JoanIt looks even better in my living room.
