Decorating, Scavenger Chic Style

I was up in Chicago this past weekend visiting a bunch of my Scavenger Chic projects.
Last year, a close family member got a new job and found himself moving to Chicago and setting up an apartment.
You know I’ve got stuff, so I immediately offered up any projects that I had sitting around that weren’t being used. Well heck, If he really liked something and I was using it he could probably take that as well. I can always replace with a new project.
He started off with a blank canvas but he did have to buy a few things, most notably the bed and couch.
Front and center on a big blank wall as you enter sits my Pottery Barn inspired clock made from a wire spool and pallet wood. It’s huge, at 53″ across, but it works perfectly here.
Outside on the balcony, sits the washtub table with a pallet wood butcher block top.
The living room was ready for it’s Scavenger Chic makeover.
The door coffee table, the wood slice end table and the repurposed frame lantern are all past projects.
On the other end of the couch was another one of my side tables. This was the one that started out with chippy veneer.
I made the TV stand just for this apartment since I didn’t have a spare sitting around. This piece of furniture was originally found at the ReStore for $15. It pulls apart to make a much longer piece of furniture. It also had some chippy veneer but it was saved with plastic wood and paint.
In the hallway sits my Pier 1 inspired mirror. A Black Dog Salvage mirror is framed with pallet wood.
A typical apartment bedroom was in desperate need of a few finishing touches.
You may not recognize the headboard but this was my shutter headboard that was originally painted tan. He also stole some of my old suitcases to use as a nightstand on this side of the bed.
On the other side of the bed sits this side table that was made from a upcycled turkey fryer. On top sits a railroad tie lamp.
At the end of the bed, one more project, a piano bench with a padded seat.
I had to show you this desk. I didn’t make it, it was welded and designed just for this space by my brother-in-law Jeffrey.
Another view of the same desk.
Jeffrey was also the one who made and designed the beautiful iron railing for my son’s house. So, if you live in the Virginia area and are in need of custom iron work, contact me and I’ll give you his number.
In the kitchen you can find one of my smaller projects, the pallet wood napkin holder. You can find a close up and all the DIY details here.
Also in the kitchen, my old kitchen table whose top I had replaced with vintage wood and a pallet wood arrow.
One more nook in the bedroom that needs filling.
That’s the chalkboard paint buffet…not chalk paint…this buffet was decorated with a chalk paint pen so it can be washed off and redecorated as desired.
Above the buffet is a repurposed drawer shelf.
In the bathroom, frames made from old farmhouse wood siding.
The apartment still needs a few finishing touches. He’ll just have to go shopping in my basement the next time he’s in town.
Stay inspired.
