Alligator Cheese and Veggie Platter

Last weekend we hosted my son and daughter-in-law’s Mardi Gras themed baby shower.  Tons of fun and I’m sharing one of my projects from the party today.

It’s a super easy, big impact veggie tray. I must say that the theme and all the planning was done by my other daughter in law, Steph. Alligator, Crocodile Party Vegetable platter

The original idea for an alligator veggie tray came from a Flickr photo posted on Pinterest.  I did mine just a little differently but they are both basically the same.

Use 2 pineapples for the body.  Cut one in half completely.

For the second pineapple, cut a wedge for the mouth but don’t slice all the way through.  Use the wedge you cut from the mouth for the tail.

My inspiration gator used 2 kiwis cut in half to make little furry feet.  Kiwis weren’t in season, or at least they weren’t available at the store I was shopping in,  so I’m using one avocado cut into fourths.

The eyes are made from one marshmallow cut in half with 2 blueberry pupils and held on with toothpicks.

Cut slits in the mouth where you would like teeth and insert  leaves cut  from the pineapple.

The mouth is propped open with a piece of dowel.

Stock up with your choice of veggies, fruit, cheese or all three and serve with a dip.

I used a few more pineapple leaves popping up in the cheeses and cauliflower.

As for how this fits into Scavenger Chic…remember the abandoned restaurant that I had the chance to pick, the one with the dead rat?  That’s where the tray came from.

Mr Alligator joins my last meat and cheese platter from Halloween.  Both make a big impact with little effort.  If you’re thinking about making either tray you might want to pin them now…by the time Halloween or Mardi Gras come around , you know you’ll never find them again.

I still have a few more projects and some fun decorating ideas from the Mardi Gras baby shower and hopefully I’ll get my pics together and share them with you next week.

Stay inspired.
