Domed Cheese Plate Makeover

If there is one item in a thrift store you are almost guaranteed to find every time you shop is a domed cheese platter. It’s one of those things you get as a gift but rarely use. Most of the time when you put out cheese, people are eating it so fast there is no need for a cover.
With that in mind, I have a quick makeover for this cheese plate that you just might be able to find a use for any time of year.
I’m pairing the cheese plate with another thrift store find, a wooden candlestick.
Every candlestick will be different but mine was tall enough that I could get two pedestals from the one piece.
Attach the candlestick to the cheese plate with wood glue. Once the wood glue is set, add couple finish nails thru the top for extra bonding.
I only had one cheese plate so back to the thrift store I went for another to go on top of the other half of my candlestick. With all those cheese plates that I’ve passed up, this time they only had a square one. 😕
Being marked half price pushed me to decide that I could work with it. Just have to chop off those corners.
Both pedestals were given a coat of Dixie Belle Sand Bar, a nice creamy tan.
The sand bar was followed by white, dry brushed on in a criss cross pattern.
Use an inexpensive brush, I used a chip paint brush, dip into a very small amount of white paint. Dab off the excess on a piece of paper, then use this dry brush to add your criss cross pattern. The finish sort of reminds me of a stone tile.
Fill as desired. While you could still use the pedestal for that fast disappearing cheese…how about filling your dome with cookies (OK, they might disappear equally as fast) or something not edible so it lasts longer.
Stay inspired.
