Little Red Jewelry Box and Christmas Mantel

I have another cute jewelry box for you straight from the thrift store. He spoke to me not just because he was half price ($3.00) but because he had an abundance of little drawers.
I wasn’t too crazy about the paint job, but paint is an easy fix.
I didn’t notice that a piece of his trim was broken off (upper right) until I got home.
Luckily the broken piece was in the back. That’s an easy fix, who needs trim in the back? Cut it off and sanded so it all looks the same .
One little tip…if your jewelry box has as many drawers as this one did, number them. They may look like they’re all the same size but they’re not!!! I took forever trying to figure out which hole the drawers went back in to.
I did an undercoat of black chalk paint but I’m not sure how much it’s noticeable in the final product.
Cleaned up all the old paint on the side of the drawers with a sander.
If you’re in the market for a sander, I absolutely love my DEWALT Random Orbit Sander , I had a less expensive one before the Dewalt and it didn’t last but a few months.
Leave as is or sand the edges for a more worn, aged look.
Finish the chalk paint with clear or vintage wax.
I tend to have a lot of red accents in my house and the jewelry box is no exception. He is still the perfect color for my Christmas mantel.
You can find a complete diy for the faux railroad tie mantel here. The cloche went straight from holding a skull for Halloween to holding ornaments for Christmas.
A little paint can make a huge difference.
Have a great week. Stay inspired.

I love this! Of course I prefer my mirror box on the wall, but this can be used for all kinds of goodies. You know how I am about containers.
