Shutter Christmas Card Holder

I got a late start on Christmas shopping this year, but I think I’m finally catching up. Over the last couple weeks, I think I’ve hit every store. Ok, maybe I’ve missed a few.
On one of my many travels, one of the things I spied ( I don’t remember where) was a shutter for displaying Christmas cards. Because it was mass produced, it wasn’t a real shutter, but it did have all of the shutter slots.
Of course I’m thinking, I have shutters. I could so make that. Even better, my shutters are vintage and they have genuine shutter chippy paint goodness.
If you have a lot of cards to display you may want to use the full shutter, otherwise, cut your shutter in half making sure you have a border on all sides.
Paint as desired.
I wanted to do some lettering at the top of my shutter but it didn’t have a very large frame. Once again, out came my trusty pallet wood. Cut a piece to fit inside the frame.
If you don’t trust your lettering skills, use your computer to write out any saying you’d like for the top of your card holder. This font is ‘Vivaldi’, I liked the swirly capital letters, but feel free to use your favorite.
Print out your text and transfer to the pallet wood. Scribble on the back with pencil or chalk then go over the lettering in pen to transfer.
Use a small brush to paint over the transferred lettering.
Drill matching holes in the pallet wood and shutter.
Use knotted twine to attach the pallet wood.
For decorative use only, staple a piece of ribbon to the top of the shutter.
What is really holding the shutter up is the D hook in the back of the shutter.
If you use a lot of these hooks you might want to buy them in bulk GLE2016 Picture Frame Hanger D Rings Small Strap Photo Frame Hooks w Screws Single Hole Zinc Plated Silver Tone (100Pack)
The shutter is hung on a nail and the ribbon is held up with just a thumb tack.
If you need a card holder or memo board year round, just untie the twine holding the Merry Christmas sign or switch it out for any other holiday or special occasion.
Have a great week. Stay inspired.

I love this idea! The bright red really captures the festive spirit.
This has to be one of my favorite Christmas Card Holder ideas!
