Crows and Skulls under Glass

I found these two clocks with the glass domes at a local thrift store recently. I’ve been wanting to decorate with a cloche but hadn’t found one the right size or the right price. I really wanted the taller one but I didn’t like the plastic base it was sitting on. The shorter one had a metal base but you couldn’t put as much into it.
You probably had no idea there were so many decisions to make in a thrift store.
On the same day, in the same store, I’m heading down the glass aisle and what do I see…the perfect glass dome. The perfect price, the perfect size.
It didn’t come with a base so I headed over to the platter aisle (my thrift store is very organized), where I find the small silver plated tray for $1.
I already had the candlesticks and you can see I already used half of a candlestick for another project. Are you seeing perfect pedestal?
If you can’t wait for your thrift store to get a cloche in stock I found this Glass Cloche Dome with Black Wood Base, 11″ at Amazon and a Glass Bell Dome at Michaels.
Attach the candlestick to the tray with screws.
Paint if desired, I’m using black chalk paint.
I also cut another round wooden disk to fit inside the dome and painted it black. You may not need this piece, but I think it holds the glass in place. Top with moss.
I’m giving you two options for a Halloween themed cloche. First up, crows. I bought these after Halloween last year. I was going to make a wreath but today I’m serving my birds under glass.
To get my bird to fly, I stuck him with a coat hangar and anchored him in a piece of driftwood.
For my mantel, I’m pairing my birds up with a skull, fake spider webs and a couple past projects…Apothecary jar and Spell book.
For the second option…the crows worked great but I have another idea. Start with a dollar store skull, the same skull I used for my skull wreath last year.
A little Halloween fake blood and he’s all decorated for the holiday.
I’m already thinking of what I could put under my glass dome for Christmas and Easter.
Until next time, stay inspired.
