Chalk Paint Side Table Makeover

Here is one more project from the loot I scavenged from the theatre company otherwise known as my Scavenging Jackpot. There were several pieces of furniture, all in bad shape, and all in desperate need of makeovers.
This is actually the fifth project I’ve completed from the pile and I probably have at least that many left.
The sunflower seed sign can be found here, the piano bench here, chalkboard buffet here and the vintage suitcase cabinet here.
This little table was not in the best of shape, but it was sturdy and just crying out for a makeover.
The top was sanded off and there was amazingly nice wood under all the water stains, scratches and fading.
It looks like I put on a white primer. I didn’t ; I originally thought I wanted a white base. Once I had the table painted, I changed my mind and fell back on my favorite combination of black and wood. My theme song should be “Paint it Black.”
A coat of black chalk paint was sanded just a bit to bring out the edges. The bottom of the table was finished with a coat of clear wax.
The top of the table got a few coats of a hand rubbed, tung oil varnish. Between coats, the top was smoothed with a fine steel wool then wiped with a lint free cloth.
Don’t throw away your crappy table, give it a makeover, or better yet, give it to me!
Have a great weekend.

This is very pretty and very close to my heart. Half of my living room has this black/wood combination and I was thinking of going lighter, because I am tired of all the dark wood. But now seeing your lovely vision, you have put me in a dilemma. But the black chalk paint looks wonderful.
I love that little round table:) and you did a great job.
It’s very pretty in black, but I think it would be stunningly beautiful in white!
Nice makeover Joan! You definitely inspire me to try a black furniture makeover some day.
What a great transformation! I love the contrast of black and wood.
I’m a sucker for chalk paint makeovers! This one is fabulous! Thanks so much for sharing and linking up to Friday Favorites. I’m going to feature you this coming Friday. 🙂
