About Me

IMG_7410

Hi, My name is Joan, a mother of three fantastic sons, two of whom have grown up , married and left the nest.  I’m left at home with my youngest son and my husband of 30 years, and of course , all my projects.   I have always had a project either in progress or on the back burner.  I’ve experimented with too many mediums to count, following fads of macrame, candle making, quilting, sewing, needlepoint,  furniture stripping…you name it, I’ve experimented with it.

When I was still a teen I started making the rounds  with my mom to thrift stores , yard sales and auctions, searching for items that I could eventually put into my own home.  We stripped, sanded, rehabbed and reupholstered.  I couldn’t afford the new stuff, but I was making something new out of something old…and more importantly, I was making it my own.  Now today, I could probably afford to go out and buy a new piece of furniture or new knicknack but where’s the fun in that?

I’m so glad you stopped by.  A scavenger is defined as a person that collects things discarded by others…that’s me!  Whether it be furniture, rusty junk, household items or my current favorite,   pallets.   When I see a pallet resting against a dumpster I get very excited.  I’m also very excited to share some of my projects with everyone.  I certainly have scavenged many of my ideas off of everyone else.
