Recycled Shutter Ready for Holiday Buffets

Before I get started on this weeks DIY, I wanted to share with you a Thanksgiving cheese ball we made last year, just to get you in the mood. Originally made by Angela at Handmade in the Heartland, you can find her recipe here. And while hers sits in a bed of crackers, mine sports very skinny pretzel legs and grape toes and the wattle is a sliver of Swedish Fish.
I know you all are busy getting ready for Thanksgiving…I’m not sure why you’re even on a DIY site…you have no time for that! You have shopping and cooking to do.
Can you tell that I’m really talking to myself, I have shopping and cooking to do.
Having said that, this project takes no time at all, however you will have to find a shutter. The one I chose is in the farthest pile back, you can almost see a little of it’s white shining through the pile of black and green shutters.
Clean the shutter and place on table. Whew, project complete…you’re ready for your buffet.
My buffet is days away. so instead of just having a shutter sitting lonely on my table I threw on some greens from the backyard and a few candles. If I ever get my ornaments out from storage, I’ll add a few of those among the branches.
The small votives sitting near the greenery are actually electric candles. Once the greenery dries out I wouldn’t want a real flame anywhere near the branches.
The taller pillars are my candle holders made from terra cotta pipes and flea market junk. They are making a reappearance for the holidays.
The greenery makes a great centerpiece up until the time I actually have to use the shutter as a buffet, then some of the greens can disappear making way for the hot pots.

I love what you have done. I’ve been picking up shutters and/or not getting rid of any I inherited. I needed some good ideas to decide how to use them!
