Oyster Shell and Music Junk Angel

Music Junk Angel with Oyster Shells

It’s been a couple months since I’ve cleaned out my workshop and it was long overdue.  When I start to do more of my projects in the kitchen because there is no room on the workbench then I know it is time.

It really doesn’t take that long once I get started…it’s really just a matter of putting things away.

So, I’m putting away my paints, brushes, screwdrivers, drill bits…and I come to what is left of the oyster shells I picked up for the Oyster Shell Lamp.  Have you ever noticed that if you put a couple of oyster shells together they look an awful lot like a butterfly wing?  Or maybe an Angel wing?

I feel an Angel coming on…back to the junk pile for more angel parts.

Out of pallet wood or other scrap wood, cut out the body of your angel with nice rounded shoulders.  Mine is about 11 inches tall.

Use the body as a guide for making your angel wings.  Have them slope around the shoulders and be large enough to hold the oyster shell wings.

Cut out with a jigsaw or scroll saw and sand the edges.

Paint your wings and modpodge a piece of sheet music over the angel body.

Drill holes for the legs, insert, and glue.  I don’t know if you can tell but the feet are the hammer part of an old piano.

I chopped the top of the finial off  to give me my head shape and screwed it into the rest of the body.

Another washer and screw attach the halo to the rest of the angel.

Shape the dowel arms, sand and paint the same blue as the wings.

A quick coat of vintage wax ages the entire angel and covers up all the fresh cut wood edges.

Hinges and small screws are used to attach the wings to the body.

Drill small holes thru her hands to hold the wire that will eventually hold the bell.

Finish nails attach the arms to the body.

Final step…use a clear adhesive such as E6000  to attach the oyster shells.

As Always, you inspire and delight me with your creativity. I always look forward to your emails…as Alice said, “they always make me happy”. Keep those ideas coming. I sent you an email a month or so ago about some bamboo tubes I bought for suggestions. Do you get it?
