Big Headed Junky Angel

Assemblage Art Junk Angel, Junk Doll

I haven’t made one of my junky angels for quite some time and with my accumulated pile of goodies piling up I figured I must have something in my stash that I could use for angel parts.

When I start a new angel I usually have no idea what she is going to look like. To hopefully give me that creative spark, I start by dumping out my pile-o-junk ( random tidbits and odds-n-ends I’ve accumulated over the years).  Besides inspiration, what I’m looking for is something that would make good wings, something round for the head, matching legs, arms and other decorative junk.

Hinge and Rust Junk Angel

In the past I’ve used my box-o-junk for four other angels.  There was  rusty hinge angel,  spoon angel,

Mosaic Wing angel, and my first angel made from a corner bathtub shelf and other junk. If you can’t envision what part of her is a bathroom shelf, make sure you go visit her how-to.

The base of this angel is one of the  two pieces I cut off of an old clothes wringer stand. While the rest of the stand became a cool coffee table, I couldn’t bear to part with the two pieces I cut off that still had the original lettering. Those two pieces just got thrown in the to-do pile.

First up for this angel are the wings.  Found in my pile of junk were two matching wrought iron plant hangers. Screwed into the sides, the plant hangers are now angel wings.

Next up the head.  The gauge is kind of oversized for her body that’s why she is my big head angel.

The head was attached by simply drilling a hole and screwing in the head till tight.

A couple of wood pieces make up the legs.  The legs looked far too new for my vintage body so they each got a coat of red paint.

The red was also a little too new looking, but vintage wax gives a little faux age.

The legs were attached to the body with wire.

The main body parts  were complete, now all my angel needed was a little junk pile bling.

The rusty piece at the bottom was attached with gorilla glue.

These tiny wrenches were part of the farm house finds from a couple months ago. Since I already have a complete set of wrenches, these two make a couple of great arms.  Come to think of it, the gauge head was also part of those farmhouse finds.

Hopefully, between all 5 angels I’ve given you inspiration to make one of your very own.  I still need to use up the other piece of the clothes wringer stand, so you’ll probably see at least one more angel from me. You really can never have enough angels.

Stay inspired and have a great week.
