Upcycled Mortise Locks Wedding Table Numbers

Upcycled Mortise Lock Wedding Table Number

I hope you’ve been following me the last few posts as I share my wedding projects from my son’s wedding.  First up was the stick arbor, followed by the pallet wood centerpieces, earlier this week I showed you a “cute” card box and today’s project, table numbers.

Wedding Tab;e Numbers

Knowing this project was coming up, back in January I compiled 30 table numbers to show the bride-to-be, Mollie.

Out of the 30 table numbers I showed Mollie, she actually didn’t pick the mortise locks that we ended up using.  She chose the black painted wine bottle with the gold numbers.

You would think that a wine bottle would be perfect for a vineyard/ barn wedding. The only problem was that the tall, skinny wine bottle didn’t look that great with the tall, skinny centerpieces.  Visually it would look better with something a different height.

Can I interest you in mortise locks?  Easy to make, rusty, salvage, what could be better?

Wedding Pallet Wood Centerpiece

The last time I made table numbers was for my oldest son’s wedding.  That wedding was also in a barn and it also used doorknob parts.  Luckily I still had the metal numbers left over from that wedding.

Because I had the numbers left over, all I needed were the mortise locks.  I had two locks already, I stole two more from my sister, and the rest I bought on Ebay.  A little rust didn’t matter for this project.

Upcycled and Recycled Mortise and Shutter Shelves

For this project I didn’t particularly want the locks with the  extra edge piece but you get what you get when you order on Ebay, so a few mortise shelves may be in my future.

I don’t know if you noticed but the table settings were highlighted with gold.  There were  gold dipped votives, gold utensils and gold rimmed plates.  So to have my drab and rust coordinate with the glitz and glam I added a little Rub ‘n Buff Metallic Gold Leaf to my numbers.  A little goes a long way…this may be my 4th project using the rub ‘n buff and it’s barely dented.

The mortise locks that had been painted over or those that had a bad case of the rusts, all got a coat of semi-gloss black spray paint.

For this project I used Clear, non foaming Gorilla glue to attach the numbers to the locks.

Each of the numbers were clamped until dry.

A small piece of pallet wood mitered to 50 degrees prop up the locks.

I glued the pallet wood on with GOOP Adhesive.

Because the pallet wood kept slipping I had to prop the pallets until dry.
