Replacing Laundry Room Sink, Laundry Room Update

Wooden Countertop diy

Back in 2014 I shared with you my laundry room makeover. While it looked pretty good, at the time I didn’t ‘air all my dirty laundry’, ( a little laundry room humor) I never showed you the old laundry tub back in the corner.  Even then it was kind of dirty and disgusting but I couldn’t find a replacement option I liked so I just ignored it.

Farmers Market galvanized tin bucket

The entire laundry room makeover was actually a series of smaller projects, perfect for the do it yourselfer.

There was the Farmer’s Market Galvanized tin.  That’s just a computer print out and mod podge. It’s been sitting in the laundry room ever since.

DIY Coca Cola and Borax crates

Sitting in the cabinets were two hand painted pallet wood crates.  The nice thing about making them yourself is you can choose any logo and make them absolutely any size you desire.

Refacing Laminate and Oak Cabinets

The cabinets used to be the laminate and oak cabinets that were absolutely everywhere in the 80’s.  Totally transformed with beadboard and trim.

DIY Wood Countertop

And last but certainly not least is the wood countertop which doubled the amount of folding space that I had. The countertop sits on a ledger board attached to the wall and just rests on the machines so it is easily removable for cleaning, repair or unexpected  washing machine floods…luckily I haven’t had any of those yet.

What I didn’t show you  and you probably didn’t notice, was the sad little laundry tub that was tucked away in the corner.  I looked into replacing the tub at the time but I didn’t particularly like any of the options available.

Sadly, the two front legs on the tub kept falling off after the person installing the tile floor cut them a wee too short.  A couple pieces of cardboard did a poor job of propping up the legs and every now and then the metal legs would go clanging to the floor.

The inside was far worse than the outside.  Lots of paint brushes have been cleaned in that sink and the washing machine drains directly into the tub leaving behind lots of dirt.

I am pleased to say the time has come to send the old tub to the dump.  Walking thru the local Home Depot I spied a  laundry sink which comes complete with a cabinet and  faucet.  It’s definitely an upgrade.

They actually have several on their website but this one was available in store and at a fairly good price.

It helps to know a little about plumbing for this project of which I haven’t a clue.  Hubby started the hookups and my brother came in for the save.

The cabinet comes in white which matches the washer /dryer but I’m debating whether to paint it black to match the cabinets.  Right now I think I’ll leave it as is.

Look how clean and beautiful, I may need to find somewhere else to wash out paintbrushes.

Stay inspired and have a wonderful week.
