Patriotic Pallet Wood Centerpiece

It’s time for another Junk Revision Challenge, a monthly blog hop to transform junk into something better.
Past challenges were Bits and Pieces, Valentines Day, and Remembering Mom and Dad. Today I’m joining my junk revisionary friends for our take on something patriotic. It could be anything from our native country, state etc…but it should make use of some kind of junk.
My junk of choice is usually pallet wood and with a fresh shipment of pallets, thanks to my brother-in-law, Bill, I am set for this project as well as a few more.
To start, I cut 3 of the wider pallet boards to equal lengths of 36 inches.
I drew my star and measured out my stripes. The width of a yardstick was just about perfect for making 3 even stripes.
I used acrylic paints I had sitting around to fill in my stripes and star.
The brand new paint was sanded down to have that old, distressed “I’ve been out in the weather” look.
The sides were tacked together with finishing nails from a nail gun, but if I want this box to last longer than one season, I’ll have to follow up with screws.
Additional pallet wood was cut to fit inside the ends of the box, and that too was nailed into place.
A coat of tinted wax ages the box a bit more and protects it from the elements.
Finished off with some handles I found in my box-o-junk. The hardware for attaching has long ago vanished so the handles are just attached with a couple large sized staples.
To protect the wood and to hold in the water, add a sheet of plastic before adding your potting soil and flowers.
It’s been a couple of weeks and the Impatiens are growing happily in their new home, by the 4th, they should be huge. I think they are taking full advantage of all the rain we’ve had this Spring.
If you love pallet wood like I do, you may also enjoy my pallet wood star created for the fourth last year.
Thanks for stopping by. The other projects my fellow junk revisionaries came up with are featured below. Enjoy.

I love this idea and I love the handles on the sides. You make the painting look so easy!
Thank you so much and yes it is super easy to paint. If you mess up just sand and drips off with the sander when you’re giving it that “aged” look.
I love your patriotic box, so cute! Thanks for linking up to Creativity Unleashed.
