Pallet Wood Fish House Numbers

Pallet Wood Fish House Number on an old Pulley

With summer coming up…beach, lake, fishing season… I was inspired to make something with this little fish I’ve had sitting around since last July.

Painted Pallet Wood fish

He was part of this colorful assortment of pallet wood fish that I originally shared over at My Repurposed Life.

These fish are about 21 inches long and make use of the 5 inch wide pallet wood.  For complete instructions, make sure you click on the link above.

If you went over to My Repurposed Life, you would have seen a fish just like this being used for a coat rack with tinker toys as the hooks. This time he is headed outside to hold a house number.

I didn’t want him quite as bright as the original paint job, because I wanted the house number to be more of the focus.  First step for his makeover was to sand him down a bit more…

…then a little clear wax, mixed with a bit of dark wax and a couple dabs of black paint.  With black paint, a little goes a long way.  The excess was wiped off with a paper towel.

Make a second fish on a piece of wide pallet wood free hand or by tracing the fish you just made.

Cut out the fish shape with a jigsaw or scroll saw and sand.

No fancy paint job for this guy since he will just be in the background.  I returned to the clear and dark wax mix with a couple of dabs of black paint but this time I added a blob of green paint.

With finishing nails, nail the two fish together slightly off-center and add your house number.  This number was nailed on but you could also paint on your house number.

I chose to give my pallet wood fish a little more rusty bling by wiring him to an old pulley.

All ready for a lake or beach side home.

Have a fantastic weekend. Hopefully the sun will decide to make a reappearance and I’ll see you back here next week.
