Copper Jello Mold Candle Holder

It seems like whenever I’m in the middle of one project, I’ll get the inspiration for another project.  If I do one pallet wood shelf, you’ll see another one soon after, one vintage sign becomes two. That being said, the pedestal herb planter from 2 weeks ago, inspired this weeks candle holder. Both require two thrift store items and both sit on a pedestal.

The base of my candle holder starts with 2 inexpensive thrift store finds..a star copper mold and a vase.  The vase will just be the pedestal to hold the star mold.

The vase and star mold were each given a quick coat of Hammered Steel metallic paint.  It’s actually the same paint I used for my faux tin plate chargers.

With a bit of Goop, the vase was attached to the bottom of the mold. You can tell from the bottom of this vase that it used to be part of an Edible Arrangement.

Yum, chocolate covered strawberries, pineapple flowers, chocolate dipped apples…sorry, my mind wandered there for a bit.

To cover up the remainder of the copper, I painted the inside with a black chalk paint.

When everything was dry, the shiny metal spray paint was treated with a mixture of watered down black paint, the excess of which was wiped off with a paper towel.

In the cracks and crevices, I applied a bit more black paint and while it was still wet, sprinkled on some rust.

OK, you know I don’t have rust sprinkles, (though someone really should invent some) it was cinnamon and it smelled delicious.

Filled the star mold with some leftover styrofoam packing materials, so my candle and moss would sit level with the top of the mold.

All that’s left was to add a candle and some sheet moss.

Keep your eyes open now and you could have a star centerpiece just in time for the fourth of July. If I find another star, I may pick up one as well, it would be fun to have candles at two different heights.

Stay tuned, I have one more pedestal project in the works…
