Even Bunnies need Makeovers

Updating and Painting a Ceramic Figurine

This little guy started out as a thrift store find. He was sort of cute, definitely not my taste but he had good bones. He was in desperate need of a makeover and if you want a super simple craft project this just may be the project for you.

I found this guy last week for about $1. This is his pre-makeover style. While the brown is OK, I think his white highlights may have gone a bit far.

I showed my husband this picture. I wanted him to see what my bunny looked like before I showed him the finished project.

Do you know what his reaction was? “Oh, he’s cute.”

Seriously, you like him?  “Yes, he’s kind of cute.”

But I painted him, he doesn’t look like that any more. So, I finally show him the finished white bunny…”Oh, thank God!”

He hated the poor bunny the entire time, he was just trying to be supportive. Hmmph, I wonder how many other projects he’s trying to be supportive about?

The bunny first got a coat of black chalk paint.  Don’t feel like you have to buy the most expensive chalk paint for this project, everyone is now selling their own versions. Check out Walmart, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, JoAnns and Michaels.

The black chalk paint is followed by 2 coats of white chalk paint.

Lightly sand a few areas with fine sand paper until a bit of the black chalk paint peeks through. Don’t worry about going too far, you can always reapply some more of the white paint.

All finished.  It took more time waiting for the paint to dry than it took for the entire project.

So quick and easy and Mr. Bunny is now joining a couple of my other rabbit friends on the dining room table. You can find the rest of the tablescape here.

I looked up tablescape in the urban dictionary and thought I’d share:

Designing a dining table (for a dinner party) with useless, cheap and tacky knicknacks, usually with some kind of lame-assed theme. 🙂

OK, that’s me!

Join me tomorrow when I guest post over at My Repurposed Life.  Don’t worry I’ll remind you again tomorrow.
