DIY Caster Wall Hooks

I love old wall hooks especially when they are made out of something unexpected.

I was just on Pinterest and I found wall hooks made of golf clubs, C-clamps, silverware, doorknobs, wrenches, spools, faucets, dinosaur heads, baby doll parts, cookie cutters, branches, an old rake, crusty paint brushes and I’ve already shared with you my wall hooks made from old railroad spikes.

They look great hanging in a mudroom, bathroom, guestroom or a kids room.  They can keep clutter off the floor, especially when they are fun to use…but do you know how easy they are to make?

You probably don’t need a tutorial for this one, but I’ll give you one anyway.

Get your wood ready.  This coat rack used one piece of pallet wood  (top) and this old piece of molding, I believe it was the molding  from around an old window (bottom). It’s actually a combination of 3 pieces of wood all stuck together. If you don’t have the cool window molding, use a fat piece and a thin piece of pallet wood nailed together…you’re going to need the extra thickness for when you drill your holes.

Cut the pallet piece about an inch longer than the cool window molding (or your stacked pallets).

With a dry brush lightly paint the surface of the boards.  It helps to have newspaper handy to wipe off some of the extra paint.  You want that great old grain to shine through.

Once the paint has dried you can nail the two boards together.

These  non-swivel casters I happened to have in my pile of junk and they make great coat hooks.

Casters were often used on old furniture and if you don’t have a great rusty junk pile like I do, several dealers on Ebay are selling them by the lot or they can be picked up at yardsales.

Just drill holes equal distance apart, add a little gorilla glue, and these casters aren’t going anywhere.

I almost forgot, but you may remember, I did make another wall rack with pallet wood and old bead board.  That one is currently in my workshop holding a toolbelt and shop apron.

If you have a chance, head over to Pinterest and look up “upcycled wall hooks”, I think you’ll be amazed at the variety and I’m sure one of them will fit your own decor.

Stay inspired and have a great weekend!
