Welcome back, I write this post as I sit in a hospital waiting room waiting for my sister to get out of a minor surgery.  I feel lucky to be here.  A couple of years ago she went thru a round of chemo as she tried to get past a diagnosis of endometreal cancer.  So I can honestly say, I’m lucky to be here and just dealing with a minor surgery. Hopefully the cancer is all in the past.

This project started last summer when I found this great gas can lying in a dump.  For a gas can that must have been sitting out there at least 50 years, it was in great shape. It had a bad case of rust, but it still had it’s bottom intact and only one small hole where the rust had gone all the way through.  So of course I carried that gas can out of  the dump and it has sat in my basement ever since.

Other than the gas can these are the supplies I needed for this project.  A can of shiny metallic silver spray paint to give a little reflection to the inside of the can.  An Edison bulb, for a touch of that vintage glam and a pendant kit available from the Hardware store.  (I didn’t realize until now I had photographed the spanish side of the packaging, but it looks the same on the other side)

In order to make my gas can into a pendant I had to first get rid of that nicely intact bottom.

So the light bulb wouldn’t look like it was sitting in a black hole, painted the interior of the gas can a nice shiny silver.  It should give a little reflection to the interior of the light.

This is the top of the pendant.  Drew a circle around the fixture, centered on the gas can.  That piece had to be cut out.  My high tech cutting method was to use a hammer and nail and punch holes around the circle until I had my hole.

Once the hole is cut, another piece from the pendant kit is screwed on from the inside.  That’s it, the pendant is complete.

OK, there is the small matter of hanging the light, but that goes on like any other light…black to black, white to white and ground to ground.

The light on the ceiling is where the light is escaping from the gasoline can spout.

Now you have to go out and reimagine the junk in your house.  It’s quite possible that you have a gas can sitting in your garage that you thought was just a gas can.

And now my sister is out of surgery, all is well and I need to go visit.  Have a great day.
